Morning Comes
hold dear the night
the amiable moon with its kindly face
the countless constellations
that accompany the colossal crescent
the hymn and hum
of creatures created
with polite purpose
and fervent intent
the watching and waiting
for things you cannot see
the acute awareness you suddenly develop
simply because it is dark
hold dear the night
for morning comes very soon
flaunting its well-rested enthusiasm

Vulnerability
my chest to the land
heart beating into the earth
while the wind deftly pushes branches
in some direction or another
giving me permission to rest
rest
I lace my callused fingers
and place my palms against cooling ground
every breath pulling the scent
of hundreds of years
from leaves - gone to dust
hollow branches - riven and buried
bones of things that were
and still are
and peering through the wildwood
the sun warms my back
it calls me to quietude
silently tempting me to sleep
heart beating into the earth
my chest to the land
